In The Green Corner
Town are still on the hunt for their first win of the calendar year, and Saturday's test against Clifton could be the perfect opportunity to find three points infront of a home crowd.
It was a disappointing result last week away at Shirebrook Town that denied Sleaford any points. Despite scoring three goals, it was ultimately defensive frailties that cost The Greens on the day due to a second-half renaissance from the hosts.
Looking back on his first start since his return to the club at Shirebrook, new striker Kyle Onyon was pleased with his contribution on a personal level and believes that he has much more to give. "Obviously the result was really disappointing but we have to pick ourselves back up, the conversations since have been really constructive" he said. "It was a slightly different role for me but one I really enjoyed. I was happy with 90 minutes in the tank and a goal. I know I can add goals and creativity from that area so I hope to get on the scoresheet again and dig in deep to get points on the board".
Having been at the club before, Onyon is delighted to be in green again, and highlights the strides the club has made since. "It’s great to be back, I’ve got a lot of family connections to Sleaford so I was always proud to wear the shirt, I’ll have all my family back in the ground on Saturday which is nice.
"I’m loving the environment and level of detail, a clear improvement is the number of backroom staff and their specialities, we have the tools to improve with their input".
Finally, the attacker knows that Saturday will be a challenge, but one the team can overcome. "I’ve faced Clifton a few times over the years and never had it easy" Onyon said. "The lads know how the game went in the reverse fixture and how we can improve, we’re prepared and looking forward to putting in a performance at home for the fans."
Opposition Focus
Clifton will be coming into the game full of confidence, having won three games in a row preceeding Saturday's tie. Victories against Radford, South Normanton and Sandiacre will give hope to the All Whites that they can improve on their current 14th placed position.
