Match Preview - Dronfield (H)

Olly Burton16 Jan - 14:37

The Greens welcome Dronfield Town to Sleaford this Saturday, in the latest round of UCL Division One fixtures.

In The Green Corner

Sleaford will finally hope to get 2026 kicked off at the PSZ Direct Stadium this Saturday, as postponements have delayed the return of action in NG34. The visitors, who make the trip from South Yorkshire, remain the only side that Sleaford have not played in the season so far.

Looking back at the disappointment of last week, Sleaford boss Matt Evans was happy that some positives were gained from the abandonment. "It was a crazy hour on Saturday morning as we tried to make sure the Uni lads, who were still at their homes rather than back at uni didn't travel."

"We were keen to use the opportunity to watch the Development Team as it's rare that we get the chance to watch a full 90 minutes. There are some good lads in there and it helps to be reminded of what they need from us in order for our pathway to work. As for the first team, the lads managed their own fitness activities and shared strava stats in the group chat. We have some very serious runners!"

In preparation for the Dronfield, who Sleaford have not yet faced, Evans believes that focusing on his team is the most important factor for success in such situations. "Not knowing Dronfield saves us from being distracted from our own objectives" he said. "As a club very in much in transition, we need to make sure our developing players understand their roles. Stopping an opponent is very short termist although sometimes essential. At least this week we can focus on being proactive and trying our own ways of playing."

Finally, as Town return home, Evans is once again grateful for the support of the Green Army. "There aren't many occasions in life that give you the same feeling as thanking a home crowd for their support.

"Obviously, it feels better after 3 points have been collected because I like to say, 'thanks for sticking with us through our downs, here is an up to enjoy!' As a club, we rely on money through the gate to pay our bills. Away games don't give us that opportunity so it's great for many reasons that we are back at home again and we thank all of our fans for all of their encouragement."

Opposition Focus

Dronfield come into the fixture two spots above Sleaford in the league, residing in twelfth place after twenty-eight matches. In their last five, only one has been a victory, coming away at Swallownest last month. The only other points they secured in this run came in draws against Shirebrook and Sandiacre.
