In The Green Corner
An underwhelming start to the calendar year has left the Greens still without points in 2026, but a strong performance this time out in Nottinghamshire could be the perfect springboard to end the season successfully.
A loss last week at home to Clifton All Whites helped to further stagnate Town's position in the table to eighteenth, but club captain Jonathan Timmins believes that there were positives to take from the game. "We all recognise that our form hasn’t been where we want it to be so far in 2026, but we’re determined to turn things around and start putting points on the board" he said. "Even though Saturday’s result wasn’t what we wanted, the mood felt more positive. We were braver, we got on the ball more, and there were signs of what we’ve been working towards. Hopefully we can take that into the next game."
Turning attention to the game and Dunkirk, Timmins feels that away games are a challenge to be revelled in rather than shirked at. "Away games are naturally tougher because you don’t have the same home support and there’s the added travel. But as we showed away at both Retford sides in January, we’re more than capable of competing with the best teams in this league on the road. We relish the challenge, even when the circumstances aren’t in our favour".
I don’t think the result against Dunkirk last time will change how we approach this game. We know every match in this league is a tough one, and we have to treat it the same as any other; a strong mentality, 100% effort, and a real focus on putting in a performance that earns us a result".
Opposition Focus
The Boatmen will start the day tenth in the league, but have not played a fixture since the end of last month. That was down to a postponement in their away match at South Normanton Athletic. Prior to this, the hosts were unbeaten in five, picking up two wins alongside three draws.
