Match Preview - Holwell Sports (H)

Olly Burton10 Apr - 14:00

Holwell visit The PSZ Direct Stadium this Saturday, in a crucial UCL Division One fixture.

It is an important game for both sides this weekend, as the battle for survival intensifies with two matches remaining each. The sides are only separated by goal difference on thirty-eight points. Gedling Miners Welfare are the other side in the relegation zone that could jump to safety, as they sit three points behind The Greens but have played a game less.

In The Green Corner

On Easter Monday, Town secured a deserved point in a 1-1 draw with groundshares Pinchbeck United. Kyle Onyon was once again on the scoresheet, as the team made it two unbeaten in the league for the first time this calendar year.

Green Army manager Jamie McGhee was pleased with the character to come back and get a result. "The positives for me over the last few games including Monday, are that we don't seem to look beaten anymore. When there's been a bit of adversity, we've tried to get back into the game. And we did that 2nd half against Pinchbeck, which was pleasing for us, and a point from a losing position is better than coming away with nothing".

Looking ahead to the tussle with Holwell, McGhee understands the magnitude of the contest with very little to split the sides in the division. "It definitely adds that bit of extra pressure to the game, which is something we aim to dilute" he said. "We trained well on Wednesday and had a good team bonding during and after training. It's all about playing the game as just another game and doing what we do well to give us the best chance of coming out on top. But it will be a battle and one we have to be ready for".

"Holwell have been and are always a tricky side. They work hard they've got pace and youth in their side and they never know when they are beaten. It will be a tough game with plenty at stake for both teams. We've prepared well and I have confidence with the group to pick up a result".

Opposition Focus

Holwell have been competing in the UCL Division 1 since 2018, but have not yet finished higher than 14th. Last season, they finished second bottom but were allowed to stay in the division for this campaign, retaining their Step 6 status due to league reorganisation, and will be looking to survive again this year.

Form for Sports has been decent as of recent. The team have collected five points in the last five games. They most impressively came back from 2-0 down to beat Stapleford 5-2 away, as well as drawing with Retford FC and Sandiacre.
