In The Green Corner
It was frustration for The Greens last weekend, as a flooded pitch at Coalville meant a Saturday off for the club. This however, has allowed new manager Jamie McGhee to have an extended period to settle in to the club.
There have been positives for the players however, as they have had longer to get up to speed with his ideas, as midfielder Joe Wilkinson suggests. Firstly however, Wilkinson reveals his gratitude for the former coaches. "Personally I first just want to thank Matt and Isaac. I was one of the first signings they made when they came to the club and they got me in playing for my hometown club so for that I’ll always be grateful".
"Jamie’s experience and knowledge of this level and above is clear and has brought some new fresh ideas and as a group, I think we have taken those ideas on well. The detail covered has been top class in such a short space of time".
As the team approaches the season's run-in, Wilkinson believes the team are confident of securing survival. "Ultimately staying in this league is the priority, and as a collective we are all determined and have that sense of togetherness as a group to turn it around. The standards have been raised and as teammates we must expect more from our ourselves and one another in the final 9 games of the season."
Finally and ahead of Saturday, the midfielder is looking forward to getting back out there in front of the Green Army at home. "We know the quality of Sandiacre, we played them very early in the season and they are a very good young side who can go toe to toe with anyone in this league. But we are looking forward to being back at home in front of our fans and putting in a performance that more importantly gets us a result that we need."
Opposition Focus
The visitors come to Sleaford after also having a postponement against Coalville, on Tuesday evening. They did play on Saturday, however, impressively winning 2-0 away at FCV Grace Dieu. This came at a crucial point in the season for Sandiacre, after a run of three losses in a row dampened any playoff ambitions, sitting in ninth place and now twenty points away. In the last meeting between the two, Sandiacre romped to a 4-0 victory on matchday three of the season.
