Sleaford Town returned to home action after a week off, losing out 4-0 to Dronfield Town in UCL Division One action.
Goals from Connor Chapell, Max Rhodes, Charlie Stewart and Arran Bovill sealed the deal for the visitors, with Sleaford creating very little to test the Dronfield defence.
Manager Matt Evans made just one change from the side that dramatically lost out to Retford United two weeks ago, with Josh Wilson returning from injury, replacing Teddy Jefcoate, who remains unavailable due to concussion protocol.
After an even first ten minutes with both sides trying to work one another out, Dronfield managed to break Sleaford down and open the scoring. Rhodes found himself on the right wing, and placed the ball into a dangerous area just inside the box. Chapell was equal to it with a first time effort beating Wilson, nestling in the bottom corner.
With just 25 minutes gone, Dronfield won a penalty to double their lead. A throw in led to a good turn just inside the box from the Dronfield attacker, and he was pulled down by Clayton Wilkinson as he started to open up, giving the referee no choice but to point to the spot. Rhodes converted from 12 yards out, blasting it in the top corner.
Greens skipper Jonathan Timmins came close to getting Sleaford back into the game with a free kick from distance, with Dronfield goalkeeper Naylor pulling off a great save to parry it away for a corner.
At the start of the second half, Sleaford looked like getting one back again. Good work on the left wing from Harvey Graves found Taylor Gray, who knocked it on to Joe Wilkinson. His first time effort from 15-yards out was well saved and eventually cleared, with a feeling that Sleaford's big chances had passed.
The next chance in the match came the way of Dronfield, and resulted in the third goal of the match. A free kick from a deep position was put into a great area in the middle of the box. It met Stewart, who got away from his man and thumped a header past the wrong-footed Wilson into the back of the net, further creating a gap in the scoreline.
Minutes later, a fourth was scored for Dronfield, killing the game off completely. Bovill received the ball in a wide position, and made a confident run into the box. Good footwork beat the Sleaford defence, and his shot rifled past Wilson at close range, killing any chances of a potential comeback for the Greens.
With Sleaford pushing to get a goal in the game, they were rewarded with a penalty in added time. Substitute Lewis Smith was hacked down in the box after making a promising run, and was the chosen taker from the spot. His shot down to the goalkeepers left was well saved, with the referee blowing for full time and ending a tough day for the Greens.
With a trip to table-topping Retford FC next week, The Greens will need to put this result behind them as they look for major improvements.
