The Greens were back on the road on Saturday, losing 3-1 to Nottinghamshire side Gedling Miners Welfare in UCL Division One action.
A late consolation from Riley Wilkinson wasn't enough to grasp any points, with Reuben Clowes, Ruben Wiggins-Thomas and Mykah Skervin all getting on the scoresheet for the hosts.
The Miners showed their intentions for the match from the off, finding the opening goal within the first five minutes. The Greens were dispossessed from a throw-in routine, with a pass putting Clowes through on goal. One-on-one with Ryan Kamm, he placed his shot into the bottom corner, giving Gedling the lead.
Things only went from bad to worse for Sleaford, too, with Taylor Gray seeing red for a high foot on Ross McCaughey, with the striker deemed to have caught his opponent in the side of the head.
Being a man down, Sleaford knew they needed a big team performance to get back into the game.
Gedling came agonisingly close to getting a second, with a shot from Aidan Loscalzo rattling the top of the crossbar from a 25-yard strike.
The big chance for Sleaford in the first half came from Kyle Onyon, with a good solo run from Benji Zalewski leading to a cross, Onyon directing his shot just over the crossbar, but giving the Greens hope.
Sleaford came close to an equaliser at the start of the second half, too. Substitute Andy Whalen was set through on goal, but his shot was well parried by Sam Tyler. The follow up was struck by Dion Tansey-Potter, but the shot was off-target, giving Gedling relief.
Another chance came less than ten minutes later, with a cross from club captain Jonathan Timmins just missing the head of Zalewski, with Lewis Greenfield's strike at the back post hitting the side netting.
Gedling doubled their advantage with 25 minutes to go, setting a comfortable lead. A free-kick deep in the hosts half was sent forward by Tyler, with a failed clearance flicking Wiggins-Thomas through. The attacker was calm before shooting, looping his effort over Kamm and finding the back of the net.
They got a third soon after, too. Prestyn Moore had space 25-yards out, and set a great ball through for Skervin. From a tight angle, he struck one into the bottom corner, beating Kamm and killing the game off.
Sleaford didn't give up, however, with the substitutes bringing added pressure onto the hosts. Wilkinson had a first attempt hit wide, but in added time he found a goal back.
A throw-in found Whalen, who held off his man and played a ball across goal. The goalkeeper got a touch on it, but Wilkinson tapped it in from close range, with Sleaford stopping a clean sheet for the hosts.
The referee blew up from kick-off after this, with Sleaford tasting defeat on the road.
The Greens will be hoping for a lifted performance next week, when they travel to Dronfield Town in more UCL Division One action.
