Onyon at the double as Sleaford held by Holwell

Sleaford Town were back at the PSZ Direct Stadium on Saturday, coming back from behind twice to draw 2-2 with Holwell Sports.

Onyon brought the game back to 1-1 with a first half penalty, before saving a point for the Greens with a late free kick deep in second half added time.

The start of the match showed very little from either side. The visitors came closest, however, with one shot from outside the box ending up well over the bar, and a second shot from the edge of the box being collected safely by Josh Wilson.

Sleaford found a chance after half an hour with a header from a corner, but Ben Coleman couldn't quite direct it towards goal.

This chance seemed to give Holwell intent, with the visitors going down the other end and scoring. Haleem Bello was given the ball inside the box, with his shot across goal beating Wilson and finding the back of the net.

As the first half progressed, Sleaford managed to find an equaliser. Archie Olivier-Townrow was tripped in the box, with the referee given no choice but to point to the spot. Onyon was elected to take it, having scored two penalties already in his last two games.

His effort found the net, only for Onyon to be ordered to retake it after the wind moved the ball. On second attempt, he went the other way, converting his spot kick and bringing Sleaford back into the game.

As the second half went on, Sleaford looked the most likely to take a lead. A shot from distance by Onyon was parried into the path of striker Lewis Smith, but his shot hit the side netting, giving Sleaford hope they can push on.

Dion Tansey-Potter was given the space to cut inside, curling an effort towards goal which landed just over the bar.

Despite all this pressure, it was Holwell that again took the lead. Defender Jonathan Timmins lunged into a challenge, leaving the visitors' winger in a good position to put a cross in. He did exactly that, with Alfie Lee beating the onrushing Wilson, heading into an empty net to give the visitors another lead with just five minutes to play.

Intensity then seemed to increase for Sleaford, with the Greens understanding a result today would keep their fate in their hands. As balls were lofted forwards, Sleaford created more chances, trying to break the resistance of the Holwell defenders. Then, late on, Sleaford were given an outside chance at levelling the match.

A player was dragged down outside the box from a careless challenge, and Sleaford had a free kick from 20 yards out. Onyon was elected to step up, and he put it on the goalkeepers side, finding the top corner and rattling the back of the net with a thunderous strike.

As the visitors kicked off again, the referee blew for full time, with Sleaford salvaging a valuable point with the last kick.

The Greens now have one match left, with a home match against Radford all that remains for Sleaford Town to secure safety in the United Counties Leagues Division One.
