Kamm The Unlikely Hero In Inspired Sleaford Comeback

Sleaford Town were back at a soggy BPH Stadium on Saturday, facing fellow play-off hopefuls Shirebrook Town.

Two quick goals by Kyle Onyon and Ryan Kamm recovered Sleaford after going behind in the first half, with Josh Parker getting a third late, a 3-1 win leaving the Greens feeling positive.

After conceding early against South Normanton Athletic a week prior, Sleaford found themselves behind after just 12 minutes. A free kick from distance was taken by Brad Newby, deflecting off the wall and heading towards the top corner of Kamm's net. The deflection threw the young goalkeeper off, as he could only watch the ball hit the back of his net.

The visitors looked to double their lead shortly after, with a ferocious effort from just inside the box being well saved by Kamm, punching the ball away. This seemed to wake the Greens up, understanding their reliance on their goalkeeper could cost them more goals, and they needed to respond soon.

They came close to equalising just after the 25 minute mark, with Cal Law creating some good play before flashing a ball across goal, with no other attacker able to get across to it quick enough to tap it in. Lewis Smith followed that up a minute later by putting the ball in the back of the net, but the linesman's flag was up, as he walked away frustrated not to be on the scoresheet.

The second half seemed to show another level of intensity for the hosts, as Town came out with intent on getting the scores level. Law had a shot of his own in the opening minutes of the second period, but it was deflected just wide of the target.

Eventually, Onyon managed to get the score level again. A throw-in from Dion Tansey-Potter found Law, who used his body to lay off Onyon. Just outside the box, the attacker gets the ball onto his right foot, whipping his strike into the bottom corner, Jak Toon not able to get across to stop the effort.

From the next kick off, Shirebrook sent the ball straight up the pitch towards Kamm. The young goalkeeper collected the ball, before clearing it towards Parker. His pass was too straight, the windy conditions helping it to ease over Toon and find the back of the net. The whole squad wheeled away in celebration with the young shot stopper, who ran away in jubilation over scoring a goal from his own box.

After taking the lead, substitutions were made in the Greens camp to try and consolidate their lead, taking a more defensive approach as the Brook tried to get back into the game.

Late on, the visitors pushed high to get a late equaliser, but Sleaford took that opportunity to get a third. A counter attack led to Tansey-Potter running down the left wing, finding Josh Parker in the middle of the box. He tapped it in from point blank range, finding the back of the net and giving Sleaford a third to finish affairs.

The referee blew for full time shortly after, another three points for Jamie McGhee at the BPH Stadium, with his unbeaten league run continuing since taking over at the end of last season.

It's a quick turnaround for the Greens now, with a Tuesday night fixture awaiting them, hosting West Bridgford Colts in more UCL Division One action.
