Player/Manager Tom Ward began his summer business over the weekend by retaining four of his most influential players.

Club captain Charlie Ward headlined that business, committing himself to the Greens for what will be a fourth consecutive campaign. Ward found his season frustratingly stop-start last time out, both through injury and suspension, but still scored three goals in 31 appearances in all competitions.

Another important piece of business for Ward was the retention of his impressive goalkeeper Liam Flitton who pledged his future to the Greens despite significant interest from clubs higher up the pyramid. Young Player of the Year in consecutive years now, Flitton has become arguably one of Ward's most pivotal players, even getting himself on the score-sheet at the end of last season during the Greens 2-0 victory at Pinchbeck United.

"Working with Tom made it an easy decision to have another season in Green" said Flitton upon his re-signing.

"Everyday he tells and shows me how important I am to the group and what my qualities bring. I can't wait for this coming season and to achieve success with my hometown club."

Elsewhere centre-back Kyle Watkins has also committed his immediate future to the club and looks set to form one half of Ward's centre-back partnership this season after impressing last term. Watkins will also continue in his role as the Greens vice-captain this coming season after stepping up into the role following the departure of Jacob Fenton last term.

"Watty is an important player" explained Ward.

"He'd be an asset to any UCL side and he boasts a host of valuable attributes. He's a really talented lad and has grown into a real leader too. He was not ever going anywhere!"

Completing this initial quartet is the clubs player of the season Max Ward, who will continue his development at the MKM Ground for another year at least. Ward earned plenty of plaudits last season for his relentless performances and capped an impressive personal campaign with a brace of awards at the clubs end-of-season awards in May.

Having not initially been expected to play such a vital role across the campaign, Max stepped up with distinction in the face of mounting injuries and suspensions in the autumn and early winter and never looked back, eventually registering 31 appearances across all-competitions.

"I'm buzzing to be back" exclaimed a thrilled Ward.

"We have such a strong group and we're adding to that with some quality additions. I'm looking forward to continuing to enjoy my football and pushing to go one step further than last season!"

More transfer news is expected soon and we'll communicate that as and when we have it.
