Match Preview – Sleaford Town vs West Bridgford, Saturday 20th September 2025
It is back at home for The Greens this Saturday, as a second league fixture against West Bridgford in as many months is set for a 3pm kickoff at Eslaforde Park
Sleaford head into the encounter off the back of a disappointing midweek loss away at Radford despite a good showing. Town will also be looking to make it a second home win on the bounce, as last Saturday saw them victorious thanks to a Silas Stewart-Caws wonder strike.
In the last encounter, Sleaford came away with a respectable 1-1 draw at the Regatta Way Sports Ground, going behind early before equalizing in the second half courtesy of a Joe Wilkinson goal. Since then, West Bridgford have not been in the best form. The visitors have tasted defeat three times in the league, against Retford United, Radford and Sandiacre, with a win against strugglers Shirebrook Town squeezed in. West Bridgford were also knocked out of the UCL Development Cup by Ashby Ivanhoe.
As it stands, Sleaford sit seventeenth and West Bridgford are nineteenth after eleven games each .
Manager Matt Evans shared his thoughts ahead of the game, and started by reflecting on his side’s performance versus Radford; “Tuesday was some of the best football we've played” he says “Even the lads commented on how it was odd to enjoy so much of the football and get nothing out of the game. We looked good in almost all areas of the pitch but are still having flash backs of the missed opportunities!”
Having played West Bridgford so recently, Matt understands the challenges in doing so; “Playing a team in relatively close time frames doesn’t really benefit anyone” “They know more about us than we would like them to and vice versa”
“We have two likely changes forced upon the starting 11 plus two new signings since we played them last. Hopefully that provides enough change to outwit them but no doubt they will be in a similar position to us. I was really impressed by their goalkeeper, I'll be hoping he isn't in the same form on Saturday!”
With Sleaford back at Eslaforde Park, Evans believes his side has to put on a show for the Green Army faithful; “Home advantage is also home responsibility” he suggests, “We want to perform well for the crowd and put on the kind of display that people want to watch. Out fans have been superb - the growing number of mini greens has been particularly pleasing!”
