Sleaford Town were dealt a blow on Tuesday night with a 2-0 defeat to Harrowby United at The JRL Brickwork Stadium.
An end-to-end match led to Sleaford ruing chances which could have helped them gain points from the match. The match started positively for the Greens, showing dominance over their opposition in the opening five minutes. Finlay Armond had an early effort pushed wide by Arrows goalkeeper Alex Smith.
Despite Harrowby growing into the game, Sleaford defended well and broke when the chance was available, in a very end-to-end first 25 minutes of the game.Ryan Flitton hit a curling free-kick from a 25-yards out, which landed narrowly wide of the post, Smith was unable to get near it, giving the home side a scare.
Liam Flitton was called into making his first big save of the game close to the half-hour mark. Sleaford were caught with gaps in their defence for the first time, leaving Johnny Gilbert a golden chance. His effort was saved brilliantly by the Greens captain, who got down to his left with a trailing foot.
The final 15 minutes of the half had the same intensity as the first 30. Both sides had their chances, with no clear-cut chances for either side as the end of the first half played out at 0-0.
The second half started in the same way the first did, with the Greens on top again. Ben Robson poked a low swing from a corner towards goal, but it dragged wide of the post. Robson had another chance from a corner, this time in the air, but his connection with the ball lead it just wide of goal once again.
Harrowby took the lead just after the hour mark. A free-kick was swung into the box, and Lewis Marsh was there before any Green’s defender to tap it past Flitton between the sticks. Jack Gurney doubled Harrowby’s lead after catching Flitton off his line. The defender looked up and chipped his effort from just after the half-way line, catching Flitton off-guard. The second goal killed The Greens momentum, despite fighting well in a physical match. Flitton got called to make a brilliant save again, after being caught in a one-on-one. The goalkeeper made a brilliant tackle as the attacker tried to take it round him, keeping the difference at two.
Despite causing pressure late on, Sleaford were unable to get back in to the game, as Harrowby secured the three points.
Next up is a trip to Deeping Rangers, with the Greens hoping they can get back to winning ways.
