Sleaford Town came out in a 3-0 defeat against Skegness Town, after a flurry of second half goals. Matt Evans made no changes to the side that beat Shirebrook 1-0 last weekend, thanks to a Josh Parker goal.
The game started with the Greens on top, as Ben Robson hit a strike from 30 yards-out which narrowly went over, giving Sleaford the confidence that had been seen in recent weeks. Josh Parker followed up shortly after, beating his man and shooting from a tight angle, which gave Liam Flitton a fright as it narrowly went wide of the post. Joe Wilkinson had a chance of his own in the first half, too, as a ball from Lewis Greenfield met the attacking midfielder’s head, but he could not do enough to test Flitton, as the goalkeeper caught it easily. Sleaford’s dominance didn’t come without chances for Skegness, however, with Rio Molyneaux finding himself through on goal, only to hit a weak effort directly into the path of Harrison Leech.
The Lilywhites managed to find the lead early on in the second half, after a corner was saved by Leech, but was tapped in at close range by a white shirt, as Sleaford took the lead. The lead was doubled shortly after, with Molyneaux finding the target. The winger received the ball after a cross in the box, and he curled his effort well into the top corner, with Leech unable to get near it.
Sleaford worked hard to get back into the game after this, pushing to get one back and give themselves a lifeline. The dark arts of the Skegness defence was too much for Sleaford though, as they were shrugged and fought off balls in attack. Substitute Ben Ashall came close to getting a goal back for Sleaford from a free kick. The defender curled one towards the top corner, but Flitton did well to rush across his goal to tip it over the bar, holding the Skegness advantage to two goals. Skegness managed to find a third minutes from the end. Lincoln City loanee Dakara Wifa received the ball in behind the defence, and he slotted it past Leech in a one-on-one situation, securing the three points to the travelling side late on.
Sleaford fought hard to get a goal, but didn’t manage to create anything else, as the referee blew for full time.
Next up for Sleaford is a trip up the A15 to Lincoln United on February 15, with kick off set for 3pm.
