The final game in a run of four away visits, Sleaford Town make the trip to Nottinghamshire to face fellow strugglers Kimberley Miners Welfare, as the Green Army look to turn their fortunes around at The Stag Ground.
The Miners currently find themselves placed 19th in the table, and an arduous season has seen them become a relegation candidate. Two wins in the last four suggest that they aren’t willing to go down without a fight and hints that Matt Evans’s side will have a tough afternoon. A victory for the home side on Saturday could lift them out of the drop zone at the expense of Gresley Rovers at the bottom. Sleaford currently sit 16th on 29 points and are looking to dampen any relegation concerns, and a victory at the weekend would do much to aid that. The Greens could look to exploit the defence of the opposition who have recorded the 3rd most goals conceded this campaign, having shipped 70 from 31 matches. Statistics such as these suggest that we have every chance of returning to Lincolnshire with all three points.
Sleaford Town will look to emulate their earlier triumph over the upcoming opponents, coming out as 3-0 victors at home in mid-September. A similar victory could provide much needed confidence for the run in to secure Step 5 for another season, and manager Matt Evans is confident of that; “Six games to go and it’s in our hands currently” he suggests, “ Whilst we keep it in our hands, we have every opportunity and feel that we will get what we deserve.” “There are many things that will happen outside of our control so we must focus on the controllable at this stage”.
However, the boss admits that there have been setbacks in the week off; “Injuries are causing us more problems”, Evans proclaims, “ Will Hollingsworth pulled up in training and initial assessments don’t look great. We need another week before we get any kind of timeframe on a return”. “Jono is in the return to play phase but is frustrated by the setbacks. We've two lads managing injuries that could do with a rest so weeks off fixtures help that.” Despite this, Evans is confident in his players to step up in the shadows, “It’s not all doom and gloom though. One man's absence is another man's opportunity”. The gaffer has also hinted at some exciting news for Greens fans; “We recently signed a couple of new guys to help us out with finishing the season” states Evans, “There will be more on that via our social media channels very soon”.
Finally, Matt has a message for the supporters after a long run of games away from home, “4 away games has been tough” he admits, “ We've missed our fans supporting us and helping us through the tougher moments”. Evans recognises that the support of the Green Army doesn’t go unnoticed, “Those who have been able to travel have been greatly appreciated”, “ We definitely need you all behind us in this final push.”
