A fifth away game in six matches lies ahead for Sleaford, as Matt Evans’s Greens look to build on their win last time out, facing bottom-half Melton Town in Leicestershire.
Sleaford will look to build on their confidence, against a Melton side who have already secured a mid-table finish this campaign, placed 13th on 42 points. The Reds will be looking for a strong reaction at the weekend, after only gaining 1 point in the last 5 matches in a run that has seen 4 consecutive defeats, to AFC Mansfield and Ashby Ivanhoe 1-0, Hucknall Town 6-1 and Lincoln United 2-1. That point came at home to Boston Town on 1st March, drawing 1-1.
The Green Army may have to look out for Melton’s plethora of attacking threat, as duo Keenan King and Kairo Edwards-John have notched an impressive 34 goals between them this season. A repeat of the defensive display against Ashby could go some way to do that, with Sleaford looking to earn their first away victory since January.
After the fine display against Ashby Ivanhoe, manager Matt Evans believes the fixture was a huge morale booster, “We took a lot of confidence from winning.” he states, “Our 2025 home form has been really good with only 1 loss, it shows how vital our fans are in helping us win matches”.
Ahead of the weekend, Evans believes the trip to Melton Mowbray will see his side gave new challenges, “Saturday will be different.” he suggests, “Other than one big loss, they haven't lost by many goals for quite some time”. Nevertheless, Matt believes The Greens can overcome these challenges, “The 3G pitch suits our style of play and I hope we have learnt from having not taken advantage of the opportunity away versus Newark Town, we simply must take our chances”.
With the opposition seeing Saturday as a ‘dead-rubber’, Evans admits there are mixed fortunes in facing such a side; “Melton are pretty safe in the league” he suggests, “This can present both an opportunity but also a danger, with little to play for they are free of the burdens and pressures of playoffs or relegation”. However, the boss suggests; “We are not in that fortunate position at the moment, so we have plenty more to manage”.
Finally, Evans is delighted with the attitude and application of his team in the past month, despite the difficulties and setbacks; “Over recent weeks, I've seen young men step up” he plauds, “Their growth in character and leadership is impressive, its often in adversity that we get to see a person's true character and recent results have exposed us to lots of that. We continue to grow and develop as a whole club”.
