Holwell Sports vs Sleaford Town, Tuesday 7th October 2025
Its back on the road this midweek for The Greens, as Sleaford head to Welby Road to play Holwell Sports FC.
Town will be searching for back-to-back wins this evening, after a 3-0 win last time out against Clipstone saw an emphatic performance turn to victory. A Ben Ashall double and a Lewis Smith strike was enough to secure the points for Sleaford at home.
They will make the trip to visit a Holwell side who sit in nineteenth place after fifteen matches played, but who will also be confident. In their last home game, The Rockets overcame bottom club Rainworth MW 4-0. Home form has allowed the hosts to remain outside of the drop zone, thanks to three wins and a draw, where they have only collected 3 points on the road so far. It will certainly be a tough test for Sleaford, who have only won twice away themselves.
Holwell have been members of the UCL D1 since the 2018/19 season but have never finished higher than 14th. Last season they finished second bottom but were allowed to stay in the division for this campaign, retaining their Step 6 status as a result of league reorganisation.
Sleaford manager Matt Evans had his say ahead of the game in Leicestershire and started by reflecting on his team’s morale; “I wouldn’t say we are full of confidence but it’s certainly had a top up” he says, “We believe we have had 5 good performances but only got 7 points out of that run”.
Set pieces has become somewhat of a theme of late, but Evans understands there is always room for improvement; “Blake and Scott have worked hard on set pieces at both ends of the pitch” he states, “We have made improvements but still need to be more clinical. It's not fixed yet, but it is a work in progress and they'll get the lads there, I’m sure”.
Ahead of another midweek fixture, Matt underlines the challenges for his team and staff in these types of fixtures; “Tuesdays off the field are tough because you spend all day at work wondering if you'll get off on time or if you're going to end up being late to the game” he suggests, “Its hectic and you've got to switch mindset and get into game mode quickly. The player's mood can be influenced so there are some non-football skills required from all of us”.
“Holwell won’t be an easy opponent so the sooner we get there and into our correct mindset, the better!”
