Match Preview – Sleaford Town vs Coalville Town, Saturday 11th October 2025
The Greens return to Eslaforde Park this weekend, as they look to make it three wins in a row against Coalville Town.
Sleaford have lots to build on as a consecutive 3-0 victory on Tuesday night will no doubt have injected some belief into the side after some mixed results beforehand. Lewis Roland and Taylor Gray’s first goal for the club gave town a 2-0 advantage, before an own goal added a third.
Town will host Coalville Town, a big club in their own right, who are pushing for the playoffs in seventh position. Once a staple of Step 3, the visitors will perhaps be most well known for their FA Cup exploits in 2022/23, beating eventual National League Play-off winners Notts County at Meadow Lane in the Fourth Qualifying Round, before bowing out to League One Charlton Athletic in the First Round. They also beat Chesterfield in the FA Trophy that season, a club now in the EFL.
The Ravens have found it tough financially in recent years, after Chairman Glyn Rennocks stepped down in May 2024 after 40 years of involvement due to financial issues. This caused Coalville to withdraw from the Southern League Premier with immediate effect, leading to them joining the United Counties League Division One in the 24/25 season.
Coalville will be looking to build on their first season at this level, where they finished tenth. Wins against Newark Town 3-0 and Friar Lane & Epworth 6-0 in respective cup competitions have suggested the Leicestershire outfit are deadly in attack and strong at the back, all the hallmarks of a successful side. Sleaford must be wary of attacker Ronnie Morley, who has bagged eleven goals in fifteen appearances, and could provide the most threat come 3pm Saturday.
After a positive week on the pitch, Green Army manager Matt Evans understands Sleaford cannot get carried away: “We strive to be as consistent as we can but there is always a surprise or something out of our control that crops up” he says. “That means we have to focus on controlling the controllables. The last two games have been good in goals scored and periods of play but its only 2 out of a 44 game campaign”.
“Its really important that we stay focused on what we do well and don’t allow complacency to slip in. Form is temporary. To be considered a good side we must be consistently good over a longer period of time”.
Evans also believes the visitors will provide a unique test: “Coalville come with experience and will be a different challenge to the younger opponents of recent weeks. They also have a good following, so we expect a bit of noise and a passionate fan base. We will need our 12th man to be behind us all the way!”
