Match Preview – Swallownest v Sleaford Town, Sat 22nd November 2025
The Greens are back on their travels this weekend, as they make the journey to South Yorkshire and the Swall-Siro to face Swallownest, set for a 3pm kick-off.
In The Green Corner
Last time out, Town were narrowly defeated at the hands of Staveley MW, in their only home fixture of November, where a ninth minute goal earned the away side all three points.
Sleaford and Swallownest first met on the opening day of the season at The PSZ Direct Stadium, where a 3-0 defeat for The Greens emphasised the challenge that was ahead in step six. Saturday therefore provides an opportunity for revenge, as well as an opportunity to see the progress made since July.
With this being the third of four away games this month for Sleaford, manager Matt Evans wants to approach these matches like any other. “Being away from home won't change too many things tactically” he said, “We know we need to have good shape and improve our starts be that at home or away. The worst thing about being away is not having as many fans cheering us on.”
Going back to the last meeting between the two, where wing play was the undoing of Sleaford on that occasion, Evans and his staff have worked hard to prepare the players for threats on the flanks. “We've noticed a lot of teams in this league have prioritised attacks in wide areas compared to last season, when it felt much more mixed.
“There seems to be a tendency to kick and chase rather than build through central areas. We've been working on ways to reduce the impact of this in recent sessions so are hopeful of being better equipped now than we were in July”.
In terms of team selection, the boss believes that Town are in a good place. “Our recent suspensions have been served and those carrying illness and injury seem to have recovered.
“We have a large group to pick from so their attitude (in and out of training) is usually the key driver of our decisions. Brad will have plenty to pick from with the development team too so hopefully we will see start to see more progress across the whole club”.
Opposition report
The hosts are currently experiencing their first year in the United Counties League Division One, after having been transferred from the Northern Counties East League, but is their ninth consecutive season at this level of the pyramid.
Swallownest currently sit in ninth place in the table, on thirty-three points; winning ten, drawing three and losing seven. In terms of form, things have been good for ‘Swall’ , but they have not played in the last two weeks due to postponements. Before that, they picked up ten points in their last five. In doing this, they beat Clifton All Whites, Radford, Staveley MW, but drew to Clipstone and lost to Retford United.
