In The Green Corner
It has certainly been a busy week for the club, as Jamie McGhee was appointed as the club's new first team manager on Tuesday morning. Sleaford then competed on Thursday night in a friendly match against Newark Town, being defeated 3-2 to step five opposition in an encouraging showing.
Last Saturday however, showed equal if not more encouragement, as Sleaford were unfortunate to come away from the game with nothing to show for their endeavours away at Stapleford. The Greens led twice in the game thanks to Benji Zalewski's first goals for the club, but ultimately the team fell to another loss.
Reflecting on the game, Zalewski believed the atmosphere was good around the players. "The changing room felt good before the game, and everyone went into it confident, including myself. This was mainly because of things going on within the club, and we were all going through the same thing, which brought us all together more as a team which I felt definitely boosted our confidence."
Despite the result, the young attacker thinks it was a step in the right direction. "It was very frustrating getting the loss, but I think the hard work that was put in by every single one of us, including the fans driving some large distance to the game, was the main positive to be taken out of the game. And yes, the 2 goals took their time to come for me, but hopefully this is a trigger for more."
Reflecting on the recent managerial switch, Zalewski first wants to thank the previous management team, as well as expressing his excitement for the future. "First of all, on a personal level, I can’t thank Matt and Isaac enough for the opportunity that they’ve given to me because if not for them, I wouldn’t have been at Sleaford and they also helped me develop as a footballer massively as well.
"But ever since Jamie joined the team, and from the very first chat we had as a squad, we all knew that he was the perfect fit for us as players. I think Jamie’s knowledge and experience will benefit us both on a personal development level as footballers and to bring us together as a team a lot more, which is exactly what we need for the rest of the season and onwards"
Finally Looking ahead to Coalville, the man from Poland knows the challenge of the game. "Coalville have a very strong squad, they have played step 3 before and have a good turnout of fans week in week out, which definitely gives them the extra push. But, we need to focus on ourselves and be the best version of players we can be. Strong opponent or weak opponent, we always give it our best and we win as a team, not as individuals."
Opposition Focus
Currently fourth in the league, Coalville remain one of the teams in the charge for promotion. In terms of league form, The Ravens have excelled recently. Three wins on the spin have further proved to the league that they are a force to be reckoned with, easing past West Bridgford and Shirebrook as well as impressively beating Retford FC away.
